Pokémon GO News: Every Event Coming in August 2026

August 2026 is one of the busiest months Pokémon GO has had all year, stacking a Max Battle Day, a full Summer Marathon, a Community Day, two Ultra Unlock events, and the debut of a brand-new Mega Evolution into four packed weeks. Most of it traces back to a single weekend in July: GO Fest 2026: Global’s Global Challenge system unlocked the two Ultra Unlock events below, and the momentum from the game’s 10th anniversary celebrations is clearly still driving the calendar. Here’s every event on the calendar, in order, with the details you actually need.

August 1 — Gigantamax Rillaboom Max Battle Day

The month opens with Gigantamax Rillaboom returning to Power Spots for a dedicated Max Battle Day — and for the first time, it’s available shiny. Expect an increased Max Particle limit, extra Power Spot activity, and a handful of special trades for the day.

August 4–10 — Summer Marathon: Arctic Embers

Running from Tuesday, August 4 at 10:00 a.m. to Monday, August 10 at 8:00 p.m. local time, this Summer Marathon chapter brings the first-ever chance to catch a Shiny Snom. Expect a new GO Pass, boosted shiny odds for select Pokémon, and Timed Research built around the event’s theme.

August 8 — Fire and Ice Hatch Day

From 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time, eggs are stacked with Magby and Smoochum at boosted shiny odds. There’s a free Timed Research line plus an optional Paid Timed Research for trainers who want extra encounters.

August 16 — Nickit Community Day

This month’s Community Day star is Nickit, the Community Choice poll winner, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time with 3x Catch Stardust and boosted spawns. Evolve Nickit into Thievul during the event, or up to four hours afterward, to get the exclusive Charged Attack Icy Wind.

August 18–24 — Ultra Unlock: Water Festival

This event exists because trainers hit 30 Global Challenges during July’s GO Fest weekend. Running August 18 at 10:00 a.m. to August 24 at 8:00 p.m. local time, it brings the Pokémon GO debuts of Arrokuda and Cramorant, along with boosted shiny rates and a new GO Pass.

August 22 — Ultra Unlock: Super Mega Raid Day (Mega Starmie debut)

The 45-Global-Challenge reward from GO Fest arrives on August 22 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time: Mega Starmie makes its Pokémon GO debut in Super Mega Raids. This is the first time Starmie has had a Mega Evolution available in-game.

August 25–30 — PokémonXP and 2026 World Championships

Closing out the month, Pokémon GO ties into the real-world Pokémon World Championships with a PokémonXP crossover event running August 25–30. Expect commemorative in-game content and bonuses timed to line up with the Championships broadcast, similar to how past Worlds tie-ins have worked.

What this means for Community Day specifically

Nickit’s Community Day on August 16 follows the standard modern format: a three-hour window with 3x Catch Stardust, a longer-lasting Incense (up to three hours instead of the usual 30 minutes), and the option to buy a Special Research ticket for extra Timed Research and Stardust once the event is live. If Nickit isn’t a species you’re excited about individually, the Incense and Stardust bonuses alone are usually worth logging in for.

Every week: Forever Forward bonuses

Outside of the headline events, Pokémon GO’s ongoing Forever Forward season keeps a rotating set of daily bonuses active all month:

• Max Monday — extra Power Spots and a Rare Candy XL for in-person Max Battles.
• Showcase Tuesday — up to five PokéStop Showcase entries across 20 categories.
• Raid Wednesday — the weekly five-star Raid Hour from 6:00–7:00 p.m. local time, plus a Rare Candy XL for in-person raids.
• GO Battle Thursday and Spotlight Hour — Spotlight Hour returns from 6:00–7:00 p.m., and GO Battle League allows up to 10 sets a day with up to 4x Stardust from wins.
• Friendship Friday — up to two Special Trades and reduced Stardust costs for in-person trades.
• Scenic Sunday — increased wild spawns and Route encounters.

If you can only follow a few of these

Realistically, few players will clear every event this month. If you have to triage, the two Ultra Unlocks are the least skippable — both Arrokuda/Cramorant and Mega Starmie are new content that won’t necessarily come back on a predictable schedule, unlike Community Day species or Hatch Day eggs, which Niantic re-runs fairly often. Nickit Community Day is worth carving out three hours for if you care about the exclusive Icy Wind move on Thievul, since Community Day moves are usually far harder to get once the event ends (often requiring an Elite Charged TM instead).
