Alongside the headline 5-star Legendary rotation, August 2026’s Mega Raid tier has been rotating between five bosses: Mega Aggron, Mega Blaziken, Mega Garchomp, Mega Swampert, and Mega Gyarados. Unlike Legendary raids, Mega Raids reward Mega Energy for the specific species raided, making them the most efficient way to unlock or refresh a Mega Evolution you don’t already have banked.

Mega Aggron

A Steel/Rock dual-type, Mega Aggron is weak to Fighting and Ground — quadruple weak to Ground specifically, since both of its types double up against it. Bring Ground-type heavy hitters like Garchomp, Excadrill, or Rhyperior for the fastest clear.

Mega Blaziken

Fire/Fighting typing gives Mega Blaziken weaknesses to Ground, Flying, Psychic, and Water. Mega Rayquaza and strong Flying-type attackers punish it hardest, though a well-built Water-type like Kyogre or Mega Swampert also performs well.

Mega Garchomp

Dragon/Ground, weak to Ice, Dragon, and Fairy. Mega Garchomp itself, Mega Rayquaza, and Baxcalibur are strong Dragon-type answers, while Ice-types like Mamoswine round out a well-covered team.

Mega Swampert

Water/Ground, weak to Grass specifically — a quadruple weakness since both types share it. Mega Venusaur, Roserade, and Mega Sceptile are the standout picks; there’s no need to diversify beyond Grass-type attackers here.

Mega Gyarados

Water/Flying, weak to Electric — again a quadruple weakness. Zekrom, Raikou, Mega Manectric, and Xurkitree all clear this one quickly; Electric coverage alone is enough to handle the whole fight.

Why Mega Raids are worth prioritizing

Mega Energy earned from a raid only applies to that specific species (with a small amount of general-purpose Mega Energy sometimes included). If you’re trying to lower the Mega Energy cost for a species’ next evolution, or unlock a Mega you haven’t evolved yet, raiding that species specifically is the only reliable path outside of Mega Raid Weekend-style bonus events.

Solo vs. group

Mega Raids sit below Legendary 5-star raids in difficulty, and several of these bosses — Mega Aggron and Mega Garchomp in particular — are soloable with a well-built, high-level counter team if you don’t have a group available. Mega Blaziken, Mega Swampert, and Mega Gyarados are more comfortably duoed unless your counters are maxed out with Legendary-tier attackers.

Building toward next month

If you’re missing a specific Mega Evolution and it’s not in this rotation, banking Mega Energy from related raids or Mega Raid Weekends is the long-term play — Mega Energy earned from your first-ever Mega Evolution of a species is discounted, so the first raid against a new Mega boss is always the most valuable one to prioritize. Quick reference

Mega Aggron: weak to Ground (Garchomp, Excadrill). Mega Blaziken: weak to Flying/Water/Ground (Rayquaza, Kyogre). Mega Garchomp: weak to Ice/Dragon/Fairy (Mamoswine, Baxcalibur). Mega Swampert: weak to Grass (Mega Venusaur, Roserade). Mega Gyarados: weak to Electric (Zekrom, Raikou).
