Event Recap: What Happened in September 2026
September 2026 was a Mega-heavy month. It opened with a Mega Raid lead-up, peaked with GO Fest, and closed with the start of the Harvest Festival. All times below are local, and all dates are 2026.

Spotlight Hours, raids and Max Battles
Four Spotlight Hours ran at 6:00 p.m.: Weedle (Thursday, September 10), Houndour (Sunday, September 13), goggled Charmander (Thursday, September 17) and Rattata (Thursday, September 24). Our Spotlight Hour recap has the bonuses.
Pokémon GO Hub and mein-mmo list the same five-star rotation: Regirock, Regice and Registeel until September 8; Hero of Battle Zacian from September 9; Hero of Battle Zamazenta from September 16; Xurkitree, Buzzwole and Pheromosa from September 23 (split by region); and Xerneas from September 30. The Mega Raid bosses on Pokémon GO Hub’s list were Mega Beedrill, Mega Houndoom, Mega Venusaur and Mega Malamar, with Mega Victreebel arriving on September 30. Official dates for the Mega Squads bosses were September 8 to 15 for Mega Beedrill and September 11 to 15 for Mega Houndoom.
Two points that round-ups often get wrong. First, there were four Spotlight Hours in total, not five, and none on September 3. Second, the September 13 Spotlight Hour fell on a Sunday, so it did not follow the Thursday pattern, and Spotlight Hour was not a Tuesday event in this period.
What To Do Now That It Has Ended
- Check your Mega Energy. Mega Squads and Staraptor Super Mega Raid Day introduced the Super Max Mega Level. Reaching it needs a Mega at Max Level and Mega Energy. See our raid attackers guide for who is worth the investment.
- Evolve what you saved. The Gible Community Day Garchomp move window closed at 9:00 p.m. on September 12, so a Gabite evolved after that gets the regular moveset.
- Revisit your Eggs and Candy. Our Egg guide and the candy calculator help you plan what to power up next.
- Keep your battle teams current. Pokémon GO Hub lists the Go Battle League season running through this period as Season 28, Twilight Trails, with cups that rotate weekly. Our team builder is a good starting point.
Will It Return?
Several September items have a documented history of repeating in some form: Community Day Classic is a recurring format, Spotlight Hour runs weekly, and GO Pass has returned every month (the August pass featured Latias, the September pass Latios). We have not found an announcement that any specific September boss or event will return in the same form. Niantic announces returns on its own schedule.
