Mossy Lure Modules Explained

During the Harvest Festival, Mossy Lure Modules stop attracting normal wild spawns and instead pull in apples — Tart, Sweet, and Syrupy varieties — along with event-themed Pokémon encounters.

Timed Research: Choose Your Apple

The free Timed Research branches into three reward paths — Tart Apples, Sweet Apples, or Syrupy Apples — so you can pick the track that fits how you want to spend your Berry supply. The tasks expired on October 5 at 8:00 p.m. local time.

Event Recap: What Happened

Harvest Festival: Applin Picking ran from Tuesday, September 29, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. to Monday, October 5, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Unlocked GO Pass rewards could still be claimed until Wednesday, October 7, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. local time. Its headline feature was the debut of Shiny Applin in Pokémon GO, along with the Shiny forms of its evolutions: Flapple, Appletun, Dipplin and Hydrapple. Shiny Smoliv also had an increased encounter chance, and Shiny Dolliv and Arboliva were listed too.

Feature What it did
Mossy Lure Modules Modules activated during the event attracted only apples. Tapping one gave a Tart, Sweet or Syrupy Apple, or an encounter with an event-themed Pokémon (Applin, Flower Crown Cottonee, Skiddo, Lechonk or Smoliv).
Wild spawns Shroomish, Foongus, Skwovet, Lechonk and Smoliv, with Applin or Snorlax possible. From October 2 to October 5, “Taken Over” spawns added Ekans, Koffing, Magmar, Slugma and Numel.
Branching Timed Research Three paths (Tart, Sweet or Syrupy Apples), each giving two of that apple per task in the middle step, plus Applin encounters.
GO Pass milestones Rank 1: caught Applin more likely to hold an apple. Rank 10: Mossy Lures last one hour. Rank 20: more Stardust from Team GO Rocket Grunts and Leaders.

GO Pass pricing was a free track (automatic), Deluxe at US$4.99 and Deluxe + 6 Ranks at US$6.99, which granted enough GO Points to start at Rank 7. Each rank needed 100 GO Points.

One detail worth getting right: the official announcement describes Mossy Lures as attracting only apples during the event, and the apples then hand out the Pokémon. Lures did not simply boost normal wild spawns.

What To Do Now That It Has Ended

The event and its Timed Research are over, so the focus shifts to using what you collected. According to Pokémon GO Hub, apples are the key evolution items for Applin:

  • Flapple: 200 Applin Candy plus 20 Tart Apples.
  • Appletun: 200 Applin Candy plus 20 Sweet Apples.
  • Dipplin: 200 Applin Candy plus 20 Syrupy Apples.
  • Hydrapple: evolve Dipplin with 400 Applin Candy and by catching seven Dragon-type Pokémon while Dipplin is your buddy. The official 2025 Harvest Festival page confirms this requirement.

Because every route needs 20 apples of one type, pick one evolution before you spend. Check your Applin first with the IV calculator and read IVs explained so you evolve the best one. The candy calculator helps you work out whether you have enough Applin Candy. Walking Applin as a buddy is a steady source of candy; see the buddy system guide.

If you caught a Shiny Applin, you can evolve it into the matching Shiny form. Whether apples can still be obtained outside events (for example through Field Research) was not confirmed in the sources we checked, so do not plan on it. Niantic did not state in the announcement whether apples expire.

Will It Return?

Nothing has been announced about a repeat. There is documented precedent for the festival itself: Harvest Festival 2025 ran from October 10 to October 16, 2025, featured Applin in the wild, Field Research and paid Timed Research, and introduced Dipplin and Hydrapple. Niantic announces returns on its own schedule, so watch the events calendar and Live Now.

Frequently Asked Questions

Was Shiny Applin really a debut?⌄

Yes. Leek Duck and the official announcement both list Shiny Applin as debuting in this event. Applin itself was already in the game, having been featured in Harvest Festival 2025.

Which apple should I use?⌄

That depends on the evolution you want: Tart for Flapple, Sweet for Appletun, Syrupy for Dipplin (and then Hydrapple).

Can I still claim GO Pass rewards?⌄

No. Unlocked rewards expired on October 7, 2026 at 8:00 p.m. local time, and Timed Research had to be claimed by October 5 at 8:00 p.m.

Does the Mossy Lure still matter?⌄

Its apple-only behavior was described for the event period. How leftover Mossy Lure Modules behave afterwards was not confirmed.
