We rewrote this page with the verified schedule (the earlier version listed a fifth hour and an unannounced September 17 date, both wrong), and added a short explainer on how Spotlight Hour works. Event Recap: What Happened
September 2026 had four Spotlight Hours, each running from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM local time. Three fell on a Thursday and one on a Sunday. There was no fifth hour, and no Spotlight Hour on Thursday, September 3, 2026 in the schedules we checked. The Sunday date is the one other pages often get wrong, so check the weekday if you are comparing notes.

The September 10 and 13 hours sat inside the Mega Squads event (September 8 to 14, 2026), when Mega Beedrill and Mega Houndoom could reach the new Super Max Mega Level. The goggled Charmander hour fell inside the Pokémon Horizons: The Series Celebration event (September 16 to 22, 2026), where Charmander evolves into Charmeleon for 25 candy and into Charizard for 100 Charmeleon candy. Shiny versions were listed for the featured Pokémon, and the Horizons event page says Shiny and Special Background Charmander may appear. We could not find a published shiny rate for any of these hours.
One claim to treat with caution: a database site listed a Mega Energy chance for the two Mega Squads hours. The official Mega Squads page ties that chance to the event GO Pass (Rank 1), not to the Spotlight Hours themselves, so we do not count it as a Spotlight Hour bonus.
How Spotlight Hour Works
In a Spotlight Hour, one Pokémon (sometimes a small family) spawns far more often in the wild for one hour, and a single bonus applies for that hour only. Bonuses seen in September were Transfer Candy, Catch Stardust and Evolution XP, and other months have used other bonuses. The hour is local time, so it starts at 6 PM wherever you are.
The weekday has changed over the years. According to PokemonDB’s history, it ran on Tuesdays until March 2026, paused briefly, and came back weekly on Thursdays from June. Bulbapedia’s page still describes a Tuesday schedule, so it looks out of date for 2026.
A simple strategy for any Spotlight Hour
- Match your prep to the bonus. A Transfer Candy hour rewards you for clearing out spare Pokémon. A Stardust hour rewards catching volume. An Evolution XP hour rewards saving evolutions to use during the hour.
- Use weather. Pokémon GO Hub noted Weedle is boosted in rain and cloudy weather, and Houndour in fog and sunny weather. See our weather boost guide.
- Bring a matching Mega. Pokémon GO Hub reported that a Mega Pokémon of the same type adds candy and XP when you catch the featured species.
- Check IVs before you transfer. Our IV guide and the IV calculator help you keep the best ones.
What To Do Now That It Has Ended
- Spend the candy. Weedle to Kakuna costs 12 candy and Kakuna to Beedrill costs 50, per Pokémon GO Hub. The candy calculator and evolution calculator show what you can still afford.
- XXS catches count as long-term progress. Pokémon GO Hub reports that catching XS Rattata progresses the Youngster Medal and catching XXS Pokémon progresses the Tiny Pokémon Collector Medal, so those medals do not expire with the event.
- Keep shinies and good-IV Pokémon. A shiny caught in September stays in your collection. Our shiny guide explains how odds work in general.
- Plan the next one. Spotlight Hours are announced in advance, so check the October 2026 events calendar for the current schedule.
Will It Return?
Spotlight Hour is a recurring format, but we have not found any announcement that these four September lineups will repeat. Niantic announces events on its own schedule, so watch the in-game news and the event calendar.
