To coincide with the 2026 Pokémon World Championships in San Francisco, Pokémon GO runs a companion event from August 25 through August 30, 2026, tying the mobile game into the real-world competitive Pokémon scene through PokémonXP, the franchise-wide rewards program built around watching and attending official events.

What’s actually in the event

Unlike a Community Day or raid rotation, this event is lighter on new spawns and heavier on bonus research tied to the Championships broadcast itself. Expect increased spawns of Pokémon associated with past Championship mascots and competitive staples, alongside Timed Research themed around the tournament.

Twitch Drops and bonus codes

As in previous years, watching official World Championships livestreams on Twitch with a linked Pokémon account unlocks bonus Timed Research via Twitch Drops — typically requiring a set amount of watch time per drop tier. If you’re not planning to watch the full broadcast, keeping a stream open in the background while linked is generally enough to qualify, as long as the platform registers you as an active viewer.

PokémonXP rewards

PokémonXP is The Pokémon Company’s cross-game rewards system tied to real-world and digital engagement with competitive Pokémon events. During the Championships window, PokémonXP-linked accounts can earn points redeemable for in-game bonuses across multiple Pokémon titles, including Pokémon GO, on top of whatever Twitch Drops research is running concurrently.

In-person tie-ins

For trainers attending the Championships in San Francisco in person, on-site activities have historically included promo card giveaways, plushies, and location-specific in-game bonuses tied to the venue. If you’re not attending, none of the core in-game rewards for this event require physical presence — the Twitch Drops and Timed Research are available to everyone watching remotely.

How this fits the rest of August

This event closes out an unusually packed month that already included the Gigantamax Rillaboom Max Battle Day, the Nickit Community Day, and the Ultra Unlock: Water Festival. With the Forever Forward season wrapping up around this same window, expect the pace of announcements to shift once September’s season content is revealed.

Quick reference

Window: August 25–30, 2026. Format: Timed Research plus Twitch Drops tied to the 2026 World Championships broadcast. Best for: trainers who want bonus research without needing to attend in person — just a linked account and stream time.
