Niantic’s next Community Day event is a Classic, bringing back Gible, the Land Shark Pokémon, on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. It’s a rare chance to stock up on a Pokémon whose final evolution, Garchomp, remains one of the best all-around Ground/Dragon attackers in raids and Gyms — and this time it comes with a genuinely useful exclusive attack.

As with other Community Day Classic events, the Lure Module bonus runs three hours past the main event, giving latecomers more time to find Gible if they can get to a PokéStop with an active Lure.
Community Day Bonuses

- 3× Catch XP
- 3-hour Incense when used during the event (does not apply to Daily Adventure Incense)
- 1-hour Lure Modules, active from 2:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. local time — a much greater chance of Gible spawning at PokéStops with a Lure active during that window
Wild Gible encountered during the event may appear with a Special Background, and the shiny rate is increased for the full three hours, plus the extended Lure window.
Exclusive Attack: Earth Power
Evolve Gabite into Garchomp any time from the start of the event through 9:00 p.m. local time on September 12, and it will learn Earth Power as a Charged Attack — a Ground-type move that hits for 90 power in Trainer Battles and 100 power in Gyms and raids. As with past Community Days, the Pokémon has to evolve inside that window, not just be caught during it.
If you want more than one high-IV Garchomp with Earth Power, save extra Gible Candy and evolve multiple Gabite before the window closes.
Collection Challenge
A Collection Challenge tied to the event rewards Trainers who evolve Gible into Gabite and Gabite into Garchomp with XP, Stardust, and Garchomp Mega Energy — useful if you’re building toward Garchomp’s Mega Evolution outside of this event.
Field Research
Field Research tasks tied to the event include a “Catch 3 Gible” task, which can reward Stardust, Great Balls, Ultra Balls, Pinap Berries, or a Gible encounter (typically in the 441–477 CP range). Two additional tasks — Catch 5 Pokémon while in a Party, and Catch 50 Pokémon — are eligible for a Special Background if completed during the event window.
Ticketed Special Research and Community Day Box
Trainers who want extra encounters can buy a $1.99 Special Research ticket, which includes three Special-Background Gible encounters plus additional Gible encounters, a Premium Battle Pass, a Rare Candy XL, and other items across its three steps. The ticket is nonrefundable, doesn’t include a story or an in-game medal, and can be gifted to Great Friends or higher through the in-game shop’s Gift button.

Trainers who check in during the event can also pick up a Community Ambassador Timed Research line with more Special-Background Gible encounters and premium items. Separately, the Ultra Community Day Box ($1.99) includes an event ticket and five Ultra Balls in the in-game shop.
Shiny Gible
Gible, Gabite, and Garchomp all already have shiny forms in Pokémon GO, so this isn’t a new shiny release — but the shiny rate for Gible is increased for the entire event, including the extended Lure Module window, making this one of the more reliable windows to add a shiny Garchomp to your collection.
Best Uses for Garchomp
Garchomp is a dual Ground/Dragon-type with a strong Attack stat, and Earth Power gives it a spammy, high-value Ground-type Charged Attack to pair with its existing moveset. It’s primarily a raid and Gym attacker rather than a Great League pick, since its CP is far too high to be viable at the 1,500 CP cap — see our full raid roster guide for where Ground and Dragon attackers fit into current raid counters. If you already have a Garchomp with a Dragon-type Community Day move from a past event, it’s worth keeping both if you can afford the Candy, since Earth Power and a Dragon-type Charged Attack cover different matchups.
Event Tips
- Stock up on Poké Balls and Incense before 2:00 p.m. local time so you’re not caught short during the busiest catching window.
- Check IVs before evolving your best Gabite — Earth Power is only worth the Stardust and Candy on a Garchomp you’ll actually use.
- If you’re near multiple PokéStops, plan a walking route so you can rotate through Lure Modules during the 2:00–9:00 p.m. window.
- Finish the Field Research tasks before the event ends — Special Background eligibility only applies during the event window.

This is a solid Community Day for anyone who skipped Gible’s last outing or wants a second high-IV Garchomp with a genuinely useful Charged Attack. It isn’t a flashy shiny debut, but the combination of a real moveset upgrade, Mega Energy from the Collection Challenge, and the extended Lure Module window makes the three hours worth clearing your schedule for.
